North Carolina Fishing License Calculator

Before you fish in North Carolina, match the license to the water. Why North Carolina fishing licenses matter

NCWRC is the agency named on this calculator. Inland lakes, rivers, and trout waters are not the same privilege as coastal recreational fishing. Buying only one of them does not cover the other. The calculator prices one license type at a time, then adds the transaction fee from the fee table except where a full exemption applies.

The fee table also lists a $5.00 transaction fee. On a standard license the calculator adds that fee to the license price. A resident annual inland selection is therefore $32.00 plus $5.00. A non-resident annual inland selection is $56.00 plus $5.00. The same $5.00 fee is added to 10-day, coastal, unified, Mountain Heritage, and lifetime selections unless a full exemption below sets the total to $0.

Resident unified license and lifetime options

Residents can choose a unified inland and coastal recreational fishing license at $51.00, plus the $5.00 transaction fee. The calculator does not offer that unified license to non-residents.

Resident lifetime inland fishing and resident lifetime coastal fishing are each $326.00 in the fee table. Non-resident lifetime coastal fishing is $652.00. Lifetime inland fishing is resident-only in this calculator. Each of these still gets the $5.00 transaction fee when you are not in a full exemption.

Mountain Heritage trout waters

The trout product in this fee table is the Mountain Heritage Trout 3-day license at $10.00 for a resident or a non-resident. The calculator adds the $5.00 transaction fee to it.

Age and special-status rules in this calculator

These are the rules the calculator on this page applies. They are not a substitute for the NCWRC regulation booklet.

• Under 16: no fishing license. The total is $0.
• North Carolina resident military on leave of 30 days or less: exempt. The total is $0. The calculator also treats this status as exempt for an out-of-state North Carolina service member on that short leave.
• Subsistence waiver: exempt from the license and the transaction fee. The total is $0.
• Legally blind North Carolina resident: no license charge, plus the $5.00 transaction fee.
• Adult care home resident of North Carolina: no license charge, plus the $5.00 transaction fee.
• Resident disabled veteran: $15.00 inland license plus the $5.00 transaction fee. The calculator does not offer this price to non-residents.
• Resident who is totally disabled: $15.00 inland license plus the $5.00 transaction fee. Non-residents are not given this price.
• Resident age 70 or older: senior lifetime at $20.00 plus the $5.00 transaction fee, instead of the adult license you selected.
• Non-resident age 70 or older: the calculator keeps the adult license price. Senior lifetime is resident-only.

How long is a 2026–2027 license valid?

The fee table says these licenses are valid for 12 months from purchase. Confirm the expiration printed on the license NCWRC issues.

What does a resident annual inland license cost in the calculator?

The fee table lists resident annual inland fishing at $32.00. The calculator then adds the $5.00 transaction fee, for $37.00, unless a full exemption sets the total to $0. Non-resident annual inland is $56.00 plus the same $5.00 fee.

Is there a trout stamp?

Where do I buy the license?
